Home of the Hangry Heifer!

After the Civil War, cattlemen started gathering wild longhorns & drove them through Coleman along the Great Western Trail to the trail head markets in Kansas.
The Great Western Trail ran from South TX to Kansas from 1874 to 1884.  From late April until late in the fall, thousands of steers & mixed herds slowly drifted northward through Coleman to market.  All the trail men needed supplies, and Coleman City was one of the last possible places to purchase them.  The bawling heifers, calves and steers, yelling cowboys, chuck wagons and remudas of horses came north from the easy crossings on the Colorado, right up the 100 foot wide Commercial Avenue which was only open prairie among the tents, between the cookfires or up Colorado Street. The Cattle Drive Café continues that great tradition of feeding travelers and residents that pass through our community. We invite you to step in, hang your hat and imagine yourself in another time. A place with tradition, history, good food and good company, just waiting to help you feel at home.

Come See Us!

The Cattle Drive Cafe is Coleman’s newest Steakhouse and conveniently located at 213 South Commercial Ave. The new owners worked round the clock for weeks to restore the historic 100 year old building. We hope you will drop in and see the results!

In the kitchen is Todd Virden, who previously owned & operated “The Turnrow”, a Steakhouse located in Rowena, TX.

The Restaurant setting is intimate & casual with a rustic flare. We have been inspired with a bit of Coleman History.

We serve a variety of foods, continue to provide Jo’s famous casseroles & made from scratch desserts, offer catering service & small private gatherings, and serve beer & wine.

We hope to see y’all there!!
